What’s “Chambray” anyway? You hear it all the time but just what does the word “Chambray” mean and what’s the difference between that and denim? According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, Chambray is- “a lightweight clothing fabric with colored warp and white filling yarns.” and denim is ” a firm durable twilled usually cotton fabric woven with colored warp and white filling threads.” Ok, that seems confusing but the real difference is the weight of the fabric. Denim is a heavier weight while chambray is much lighter and versatile. Chambray shirts, skirts, and dresses or even shoes are made by just about every brand!

The holiday season is here and many people will be attending the annual company holiday party. Now is a great time to put your outfit together so there’s no need to stress the day of the event.
First, think of the basis for your outfit. If you’ll be going straight from work, focus on accessories for your party inspiration. Ditch your blazer or cardigan for the special top underneath, and add a sparkly necklace, belt or earrings and great looking heels… you’re ready to go! This top from Ann Taylor is work appropriate, probably not something you’d wear on a regular day but perfect for a special event.
If the company party isn’t a work day then dress in something special but appropriate for socializing with your coworkers…. this is not the time to show cleveage, wear a super short skirt or something that’s a little too revealing. This gorgeous sheath dress from Chiara Boni La Petite Robe available at Nordstrom is perfect for holiday events.
Throw on a wrap for warmth and add a small clutch (not your every day handbag) like this metallic bag by Diane Von Furstenberg available at Neiman’s and you’re all ready to head off to the party looking festive, fun and appropriately dressed to celebrate with your co-workers.
The modern take on the peplum style is super flattering on most body types. This style has been around and back again, starting with the 40’s, then the 80’s and is a huge trend again for 2012. This extra flounce of fabric has been added to tops and jackets, skirts, dresses and high waisted pants…even hemlines.
Here’s Charlize Theron in a classic red Lanvin peplum dress for the MTV Movie Awards back in June,
and Emma Stone at the same event in a dramatic black peplum top. While Emma is wearing a fuller skirt, its generally best to have a fitted silhouette on the bottom by wearing slim pants or a pencil skirt.
If you’re looking for a top with that extra ruffle try this cozy cashmere sweater from Bloomingdale’s which could be casual or dressy.
Another great peplum top, this one for plus sized women made in a metallic fabric by Alfani for Macy’s.…is perfect for the holidays!
And, a fantastic skirt that’ll make you want to wear peplum is this Alice + Olivia pencil skirt from Neiman Marcus. Pair it with a fitted blouse for an office party or dinner date.
